Minnesota 44, Purdue 28

The Gopher knocked off Purdue 44-28 today in Minneapolis to improve to 5-3 on the season.  They are now 1 game from bowl eligibility.  True freshman Philip Nelson was the star of this game, he finished 15-22 for 246 yards and 3 TD's, he also ran for 37 yards.  I guess this is what a Jerry Kill offense looks like with a QB who fits their system.  A couple of other true freshmen also looked good, Rodrick Williams and K.J. Maye, the youth movement is here.

Observations:
  • 458 total yards for Minnesota. I can't recall the last time that happened in a B1G game.
  • MarQueis Gray looks good at WR.
  • Michael Carter has really impressed me this season at CB.
  • Brock Vereen is a much better Safety than he is a CB.
  • Lack of depth is still an issue for the Gophers.
  • 3 new starters on the OL is probably not ideal when you have a true freshman QB.
  • 134 yards rushing for Donnell Kirkwood.
  • The Gophers poor punting is becoming inexcusable.
  • Brandon Beal wore Gary Tinsley's honorary number 51 today.
  • Up next?  @ home against Michigan
