Saints 14, Vikings 9
So much for a 16-0 season for the Vikings as they lost their season opener 14-9 to the Saints tonight. The offense just looked out of sync all night. This really shouldn't come as a surprise to anybody. Brett Favre didn't show up until after the second preseason game and didn't look to be in top shape after his ankle surgery this off season. Their best WR, Sidney Rice, is out for at least the first 6 games. Percy Harvin missed most of training camp due to his migraine issues. Center John Sullivan missed most of camp due to an injury. Adrian Peterson also missed a lot of training camp. Hopefully, they can sort out some of their timing issues by next week. Other observations? 1-With Rice out, they really need a deep threat at WR, is it a pipe dream to hope for Randy Moss or Vincent Jackson??? Probably, but they do need to add somebody. 2-Albert Young is no Chester Taylor, I hope Toby Gerhardt gets healthy soon and is given a chance at the backup RB position. 3-The secondary struggled, hopefully Cedric Griffith and Chris Cook get healthy quickly. 4-Overall the defense did play well, they did hold the Saints to 14 points after all, that's the lowest point total in Sean Payton's tenure as head coach of the Saints, you can't hope for more than that. 5-The Dolphins are up next week, don't under estimate them, they are a solid team.
