Minnesota 44, UNH 7

Jerry Kill and the Gophers start out 2-0 with a 44-7 win over New Hampshire today in Minneapolis.  I know, I know, it was just New Hampshire but the fact is New Hampshire has been one of the better FCS teams for years now and the Gophers have struggled mightily against FCS competition in recent years. This is how I expect them to look against inferior non-conference opponents, it was good to see.  They have now won 4 of their last 7 games going back to last season, they definitely seem to be moving in the right direction.

Observations:
  • TPSG Game Ball goes to MarQueis Gray for his 4 TD's. He looked much more comfortable throwing the ball today, hopefully this game will give a boost to his confidence moving forward.
  • Tracy Claeys is a really good defensive coordinator, they bend a bit but they don't seem to break, he also does a nice job of making in-game adjustments.
  • We found a pass rush!  4 sacks!  About time.
  • Max Shortell looked pretty impressive in his limited playing time.
  • Mike Rallis wore Gary Tinsley's rotating number 51 jersey today.
  • Nice kickoff video from GopherSports.
  • You can now grab a beer at TCF Stadium!  It'll cost you though.
  • D.L. Wilhite seemed to be in the UNH backfield all day.  He's really started the season strong.
  • I thought that the running game struggled a bit, they need more push from their OL
  • Jordan Wettstein needs to do a better job on FG's or Chris Hawthorne will take the job back.
  • A.J. Barker looks like a real find as a punt returner.
  • Up next?  Western Michigan @ TCF Stadium in Minneapolis.
