How Did We Get A President Trump?

How the fuck did Donald Trump get elected President of the United States?  I cannot think of any one main reason, there are lots of reasons, with the following being the main ones:

-James Comey / FBI, Comey's announcement of additional inquiry into Hillary Clinton's email 11 days before the election was unprecedented and changed the trajectory of the whole election.  The fact that they found no further evidence of wrongdoing 2 days prior to the election further inflamed Trump supporters to go out and vote against her.  Additional leaks attributed to the FBI also didn't help.

-Obstruct & blame finally benefited the GOP.  It took them 8 years, but they finally did it.  Republicans in congress were so determined to de-legitimize President Obama that they decided to obstruct him on everything, big or small it didn't matter, then when progress wasn't made they blamed it on the President.  Put simply Republicans put their party ahead of the country, they knew damn well that most people don't pay attention to details like that and they pulled a fast one on them.  It also made it easy for them to campaign against a third Obama term.

-Weaponization of politics by the GOP.  They didn't care how much time or money was wasted on investigating Hillary Clinton on Benghazi or their email "scandal", it was all about dirtying up Hillary Clinton prior to the election.  They even admitted to it, and it worked.  Disgraceful.

-Repeal of the Voting Rights Act allowed red states to implement voter suppression tactics that keep voters away from the pols, specifically voters who were more likely to vote for Democratic candidates.

-The media's insistence on false equivalency minimized all of the horrible things that Donald Trump had said and done.   It was the major media fail of the campaign season.  The media covering it like a horse race didn't help either, there was very little coverage of the actual issues, but lots of focus on "conspiracies".

-Right wing media in their zeal to de-legitimize President Obama has been spewing vile about President Obama for 8 years now and about Hillary Clinton for 25+ years, it was bound to take a toll with their simpleton viewers/listeners.

-Far left ideologues voting for Donald Trump with their Jill Stein and Gary Johnson votes cost Hillary Clinton dearly.  If you don't believe me just look at Michigan and Wisconsin.  Apparently they learned nothing from Ralph Nader.  As the saying goes, those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.  I hope they can sleep at night knowing they lost the Supreme Court for decades to come.

-Electoral College has now failed Democracy twice in the past 16 years.  It inherently favors smaller more rural states over states with large population centers and for the most part those smaller more rural states tend to vote Republican.  It's an antiquated system and it's time to end this practice, or at the very least amend it so that it's fair to all voters.  What's wrong with one person one vote?

-Russia/Wikileaks constant dribbling of emails damaging to Hillary Clinton further tarnished the trustworthiness of Hillary Clinton with undecided voters.  The fact that Donald Trump cheered them along (and perhaps coordinated with them) would have probably doomed most normal candidates but it worked like a charm for Donald Trump.

-The idiocracy bought into every false hope spewed to them from Donald Trump.  People are unhappy, they are looking for a savior, and in a "change election" Donald Trump spewed enough populism to convince them that he's the one only who can drain the swamp.  I suspect that many will not be real happy with the results of this election come 2020.  Trump voters are not all the sharpest tools in the shed either.

-Racism.  With the ever-changing demographics of the U.S., Donald Trump knew that he needed every last white vote that he could get, including the Alt-Right white supremacist vote.  He got it too, especially in the small rural parts of America.  Don't believe it?  Why did the KKK and David Duke endorse him?  Why did he and his son continually re-tweet known racists?  Why did he hire a leader of the Alt-Right to work on his campaign (and now his Presidency)?

-Social Media worked in Donald Trump's favor.  More and more Americans then ever before admit to getting their news from social media and social media has become a haven for fake news. Facebook, the biggest social media site in America, is the main culprit too.  An uniformed voter is not a good voter.

-Voter Turnout was down again and everybody knows that when more people vote the better chance that Democrats have to win.  Voter suppression kept many home, voter apathy kept many home, the end result of that equation worked in Donald Trumps favor.

So as you can see, there's not one easy answer.  I just don't believe for one second that it was a giant rebuff of Democrats and democratic policies by blue collar America like many are claiming.  If that was the case Hillary Clinton wouldn't have won the popular vote.  Hell, even Mitt Romney and John McCain got more votes than Donald Trump.  In my opinion, it was just a confluence of factors working together and unfortunately we will all end up paying for it in the long run.
