Cardinals Draft D.J. Humphries
The Arizona Cardinals selected Florida OT D.J. Humphries in round 1 (number 24 overall) of the NFL Draft today. I didn't see that coming, I guess Keim was telling the truth when he said he would stick to his board and grab the BPA. I'll assume he will compete with Bobby Massie for the starting RT spot. He's a good player, no doubt about it, but this wouldn't have been my choice, I think you do need to balance BPA with need and I'm not sure that OT is a great area of need. I wish him well though!
Vikings Draft Trea Waynes
The Minnesota Vikings selected Michigan State CB Trae Waynes in round 1 (number 11 overall) of the NFL Draft today. I was hoping they'd be able to trade down and accumulate more picks, but when all is said and done, I think they did okay with this pick. He makes a perfect complement to Xavier Rhodes at the CB spot for the Vikings and given the quality of the QB's in the NFC North that can only help.
TPSG 2015 NFL Mock Draft 6.0
The 2015 NFL Draft starts tonight! It's time for a final 2015 NFL Mock Draft! So, here goes with version 6.0:
If Brandon Scherff is available to the Vikings I think he is their pick. A CB like Trae Waynes to line up opposite Xavier Rhodes is also a possibility. You really cannot rule out another WR either, or a trade down for that matter.
I think the above mock would probably to worst case scenario for the Cardinals as I sense they'd really like to add Gurley or Gordon. The top edge rushers and CB's would also be gone. That would leave BPA and in this case I think that would be Eric Kendricks.

Cardinals Draft Thoughts
The Cardinals claim they have no glaring needs heading into the 2015 NFL Draft. Anyone who watched them limp down the stretch last season knows that's far from true. They need an edge pass rusher, they need another RB, they need a CB to replace Antonio Cromartie, they need to groom an eventual starter at QB, they could use another LB or 2 and they could use some depth along their offensive and defensive lines.
Despite what the Cardinals are saying, I highly suspect that the Cardinals would love to find an edge pass rusher early in the draft (i.e. number 24 overall). Without John Abraham last year the Cardinals really struggled to get to the QB, and considering the whole defense is predicated around pressuring the QB that's a pretty big issue to have. Three names to keep an eye on are Randy Gregory, Shane Ray and Bud Dupree. All three have been to projected to go much higher than the Cardinals selection, but Gregory and Ray are dropping and Dupree could really land anywhere from the top 10 to bottom of round 1. If any are available to the Cards, I suspect they will be wearing red. If they don't go DE at 24, look for them to go either RB, MLB, CB or DT.

When Carson Palmer was healthy last year there wasn't a better team in the league than the Cardinals. When Palmer went down with his knee injury though, the Cardinals season was essentially over. He is vitally important to the Cardinals offense. Without Palmer, the Cardinals passing attack suffered, teams focused on stopping their rushing offense, which they did, they then started losing the time of possession and field position battles and as a result put way too much pressure on their defense, it got quite ugly. Drew Stanton returns as the back up QB, as a back up he is quite good, when asked to carry the load though he struggled and was exposed. Logan Thomas will enter camp as the third QB, he couldn't beat out Ryan Lindley last year though, that is very troubling as Lindley was not a very good QB. I suspect that Logan Thomas is not long for the Arizona Cardinals (unless they move him to TE). What am I getting at here? The Cardinals could really use another QB, unfortunately it's not a great draft for QB's. They reportedly have some interest in Brett Hundley and I could get on board with that, I was quite impressed with him in the games I saw him play last year (although, I admittedly did not see all of his games).
I keep seeing Todd Gurley and Melvin Gordon projected to the Cardinals in the mock drafts. The Gurley pick makes some sense to me, the Gordon one not so much. Let's not forget, the Cardinals still have Andre Ellington, why would they want a clone of him in Gordon too? What the Cardinals need is a big, between the tackles, chain moving RB who complements Ellington, Gurley would provide that, Gordon would not. Adrian Peterson would provide that too, but it doesn't appear the Cardinals are willing to meet the Vikings asking price for him. Back to the draft, a few other between the tackles RB's to keep an eye on for the Cardinals would be Jay Ajayi, David Cobb, David Johnson and T.J. Yeldon.
I think the Cards are okay at WR and TE, some depth along the OL would be nice but it's not a glaring need either.
Outside of an edge pass rusher, a big DT to replace Dan Williams may be on the Cardinals radar along the defensive line, especially if someone like Danny Shelton falls to them.
At LB, the Cardinals really missed Darryl Washington last year, he may or may not be back this season. Even if he is back, you never know for how long. Kevin Mintor really hasn't established himself either so I suspect they would be open to bringing in a MLB. I could see them looking at Benardrick McKinney, Denzel Perryman, Eric Kendricks and Paul Dawson in rounds 1-3.
As for the secondary, I think they are fine at safety, another CB would be nice though and given that Bruce Arians likes his corners tall and quick, keep an eye on the following names in rounds 1-3: Eric Rowe, Byron Jones and Jalen Collins.

Viking Draft Thoughts
Just some quick Vikings thoughts going into this week's draft.
Round 1 could go any number of directions.
Personally, in my ideal draft scenario, Iowa OT/OG Brandon Scherff is still available at number 11 and he is the Vikings pick. It just makes too much sense. Let me count the reasons: 1) Given his versatility he is one of the safest picks in this draft, outside of Center you can pretty much plug him into any spot on the OL. 2) He's a beast, just watch his film. 3) With the release of Charlie Johnson, there's a gaping hole at OG on the Vikings offensive line. 4) If Matt Kalil continues to struggle at OT, you could eventually swing Scherff outside to that OT spot. 5) The NFL is a copy cat league and after watching how much of an impact Zach Martin had on the Cowboys last year, other teams, including the Vikings, had to take note. 6) The Vikings OL was putrid last year, they desperately need an upgrade. 7) They really need to keep Teddy Bridgewater upright and healthy. Of course this could all be a moot point should another team (Giants? Rams?) grabs Scherff before the Vikings have a chance to nab him at number 11 overall. If Scherff is gone, I wouldn't expect the Vikings to take a different offensive lineman at number 11, I just don't feel they value anyone else highly enough to pick them that at that point (if they trade down though I could see them looking closely at La'el Collins out of LSU). I would also be a big fan of selecting South Carolina OG A.J. Cann in round 2 (given that they don't select Scherff in round 1).
If Scherff is gone at number 11, I'm guessing they look at CB's and WR's. If either Amari Cooper or Kevin White slide to them, they'd be hard to pass on. I'm guessing that doesn't happen though. Which brings us to CB, the top 2 CB's should still be on the board at this point so I'm guessing that is the direction the Vikings will go. It's just a matter of which is the better fit between Trea Waynes and Marcus Peters. The opinions on Waynes seem to vary quite a bit, some love him, some not so much. Peters looks like the better player to me but he has some red flags. Either one would look nice at CB opposite of Xavier Rhodes though.
Elsewhere?
The Vikings are set for years to come at QB with Teddy Bridgewater. Backup Shaun Hill looks like he's on his last legs though and they really don't have a third QB of note. I could see the Vikings picking a late round QB to groom, perhaps someone like Sean Mannion or Chris Bonner.
At RB it all depends upon how the Adrian Peterson situation shakes out. Personally, unless they get an offer they cannot refuse, I hope they hold on to Peterson. A 3rd or 4th round draft pick is just not adequate compensation for someone who is still one of the best players in the NFL and would not make them a better team over the next season or two. If he's not traded, as is appearing likely, I don't see the Vikings adding a another RB. If, on the other hand, they do trade Peterson, I could very much see the Vikings drafting another RB. Matt Asiata is a fine backup but as a starter he has his limitations. Jerick McKinnon looked good as a rookie but I'm not convinced that he can stand up the pounding of being a three down RB, in which case I could see the Vikings look hard at Jay Ajayi, T.J. Yeldon, David Johnson or David Cobb.
If the Vikings don't select a WR in round 1, I still think they grab one at some point. Mike Wallace was a nice addition but the jury is still out on Cordarelle Patterson. Jarius Wright is a nice slot WR and Charles Johnson showed a lot of promise but neither really strikes much fear into anyone. Personally, I would not be opposed to them taking a chance on Dorial Green-Beckham if he's available to them in round 2 or 3. After watching him destroy Arizona State, I'm also a big Nelson Agholor fan.
With Kyle Rudolph, Chase Ford and Rhett Ellison already on board, I doubt that the Vikings draft at TE, although a late round sleeper like Blake Bell isn't out of the realm of possibility.
While the Vikings defensive line could use a few minor upgrades, I think the Vikings have more pressing concerns. Hopefully, Scott Crichton can up his game in year 2 too.
At LB, outside of Anthony Barr, the Vikings have a lot of question marks. Chad Greenway will be back for one last season but he's not nearly the player he once was. Gerald Hodges and Audie Cole showed some signs of life last year, but an upgrade at LB has to be on their agenda. I doubt that Dante Fowler Jr falls to them but there is a chance that Vic Beasley does and if he does it wouldn't surprise me if the Vikings nab him. A Barr-Beasley LB combination would be as athletic as any in football.
The last spot I would expect the Vikings to address would be the free safety spot. Robert Blanton held this spot most of last season but his play left a bit to be desired. Andrew Sendejo got some time at the FS spot too, I really like how he plays but I'm not sure if he's an every down player. Antone Exum could possibly grow into this spot but he didn't put any claim in on it last season. A guy I would really like to see the Vikings pick up in the middle rounds is Cedric Thompson from Minnesota, I have seen pretty much every game he has played and I just love his game, he's highly underrated.

"The Godfather Part II" just may be the best sequel ever. "Chinatown" is one of Jack Nicholson's best films. "Blazing Saddles" was arguably Mel Brooks greatest film, just ahead of "Young Frankenstein". "The Longest Yards" perfectly combines the football and prison genres. "Death Wish" is perhaps the best vigilante film ever made. If you love disaster movies, you can't help but love "The Towering Inferno" and "Airport 1975". "Murder on the Orient Express" is a great murder mystery. "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" is without doubt one of the scariest movies I've ever seen.

TPSG 2015 NFL Mock Draft 5.0
The 2015 NFL Draft is now less than 2 weeks away, what better time to update my 2015 NFL Mock Draft? So, here goes with version 5.0:
The Vikings seem to be zeroing in on WR, CB & OL. Being that Mike Zimmer is a defensive guy, I'm guessing they go CB. That could change though if Brandon Scherff falls to them. Given the struggles of the offense last year, a top WR also has to be tempting. I wouldn't rule out a trade down to pick up additional draft picks either.
The Cardinals seem to be zeroing in on an edge pass rusher, RB and CB. I just can't see the Cardinals picking a RB in round one, that is so 2000. The lack of a pass rusher was the Cardinals biggest weakness last year and if one is available to them, that seems like the direction they will go, I don't see them reaching for one though, thus keep an eye out for the CB's, or even a big DT at number 24.

Randy Gregory's drug issues continue to make him the big wildcard of this draft. He could land anywhere from number 5 overall to somewhere in the second round.

"Jaws" is one of the most terrifying movies of all time, I loved it! "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" is perhaps Jack Nicholson's best role. "Dog Day Afternoon" is early Al Pacino at his best. "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" is perhaps the best of the Monty Python series. "The Eiger Sanction" is yet another great Clint Eastwood film. "Rollerball" has been called the most exciting two hours in sports. "Three Days of the Condor" is a great thriller. "French Connection II" probably wasn't as good as the original but was enjoyable nontheless. "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" is the epitome of a cult classic. "Nashville" is one of the best Robert Altman films, and that's saying a lot.

ASU Hires Bobby Hurley
I know it's old news by now, but I wanted to weigh in on Arizona State's hiring of Bobby Hurley as head basketball coach. Like most, I have a few concerns, but overall I really like this hire. They really needed to hire a hardworking young guy to re-energize the program and they seem to have gotten just that in Bobby Hurley. He's got name recognition that will get him in the door with most recruits (or their parents at least), he comes from a legendary coaching family, he turned Buffalo's basketball fortunes around in short order, he's got that Duke pedigree and he seems to have a real passion for the game. The reception he has received so far has been very positive and gives me a lot of hope for the program moving forward. Not that aren't some concerns though. He's only been a head coach for 2 years, his coaching success was in the MAC, and he's an east coast guy without a lot of west coast recruiting ties. Overall though, I'm very happy with this hire, I didn't want another retread. On a side note, hopefully he has already reached out to Marvin Bagley III and Markus Howard, those 2 would be really nice building blocks for Hurley.
