49ers 20, Cardinals 17

The Cardinals lost their regular season finale 20-17 today to the 49ers in San Francisco.  The Cardinals finish the year with a 11-5 record, considering they lost 4 of their final 6 I'm honestly a bit disappointed with that.  The Cardinals did earn the number five spot in the NFC playoffs though.  Unfortunately, I'm not optimistic going forward, the QB play is just way too shaky at this point regardless of who they are playing.  Go get it Cards!  Make me eat my words.

Observations:

• Ryan Lindley threw 2 touchdown passes!  And 3 interceptions. 
• It was nice to see Michael Floyd make an impact again. 
• Bruce Arians gets my vote for NFL Coach of the Year. 
• The Cardinals need a Frank Gore / Marshawn Lynch type power RB. 
• Where are those turnovers from the Cardinals defense?   
• The Cardinals finished the year 4-4 on the road, 7-1 at home. 
• 9 different Cardinals caught passes today.  
• Larry Fitzgerald needs to play a bigger role if the Cardinals are to advance in the playoffs.
• Turnovers:  Cardinals 3, 49ers 0
• 2nd Half Scoring:  49ers 7, Cardinals 0
• Have I mentioned that Ted Ginn Jr was a disappointment to me this season? 
• The Cardinals defense needs to play better than the last 2 weeks once the playoffs start. 
• Colin Kaepernick killed the Cardinals on the ground. 
• I remember liking Anquan Boldin.  I wish he was still a Cardinal. 
• It would be nice if Drew Stanton could play next week!  
• So long Jim Harbaugh, it was a nice run, now get out of the NFC West already!
• Is Todd Bowles on the Atlanta Falcons radar?  
• Should the Cardinals move Logan Thomas to TE this off season?  
• Cardinals draft needs:  RB, DE, ILB, QB, WR
• Up next?  @ Carolina to take on the Panthers in round 1 of the NFL Playoffs.  

Vikings 13, Bears 9

The Vikings closed their 2014 season today with a 13-9 win over the Bears in Minneapolis.  The Vikings finished the season with a 7-9 record.  That's 2 more wins than last year, while that's not a giant leap it was hard not to notice improvement out of this team from last year, they were a couple late collapses away from a 9-7 record.  I really like the direction they are headed, the coaching was much better, Teddy Bridgewater showed a great deal of promise and the defense was vastly improved.   I honestly wouldn't have minded a close loss and the better draft position it would have brought but there is also something to be said about closing out on a winning note.

Observations:

• I really love Teddy Bridgewater's poise in the pocket, he's got a future in this league.  
• The Vikings were 8-15 on third down conversions.  Not bad!  
• How was Audie Cole not playing ahead of Jasper Brinkley again?  He was a beast. 
• There is certainly a place on this football team for Matt Asiata.  
• Xavier Rhodes has the looks of a shutdown cornerback! 
• So long Christian Ponder, best of luck in your next destination. 
• Gerald Hodges showed some flashes at LB today.  
• It was nice to see Matt Kalil finish the season with several strong games. 
• How can you not pull for guys like Marcus Sherels & Adam Thielen?  
• Here's hoping that Cordarrelle Patterson received a wake up call this season. 
• These Xavier Rhodes & Corey Wootton GIF's are hilarious. 
• I hope the Vikings find a way to bring back Greg Jennings, Matt Cassel & Chad Greenway.
• It'll be interesting to see how the Adrian Peterson situation shakes out.  
• 4th Down Bot thinks the Bears should have gone for first down vs the field goal attempt. 
• Viking draft needs:  WR, OL, LB, CB, S, RB
• We are now one year closer to the Vikings new stadium! 
• I strongly suspect that this was Marc Trestman's last game as the Bears head coach.
• Up next?  The 2015 NFL Draft on April 30, 2015.

Sun Bowl

Arizona State 36, Duke 31

The Sun Devils knocked off Duke 36-31 today in the Sun Bowl in El Paso.  The Sun Devils finish the season with a 10-3 record and almost assuredly will have a top 15 ranking when all is said and done.  The Sun Devils reached 10 wins 2 years in a row for the first time since 1973 with this win.  It wasn't easy though, ASU let Duke stay close for much too long, then held on for the win.  Nice season Sun Devils!!

Observations:

• Duke dipped into their bag of tricks big time today.  
• The Sun Devils seemed to relax after going up 20-3.
• I wish ASU was a more physical team, they're much too finesse for my tastes.
• That late Kalen Ballage 96 yard kick off return was huge! 
• Jaelen Strong went out in style.  7 catches for 103 yards.  
• That two point conversion attempt by Arizona State was a mess. 
• Demario Richard had a heckuva a ball game. 4 touchdowns.   
• That fake punt by Duke was a thing of beauty.    
• Turnovers:  Duke 2, Arizona State 0
• I did not like that 4th & short call by ASU in the fourth quarter. 
• Kweishi Brown really showed up big when it counted!   
• Duke was 4 for 4 on fourth downs.  
• Zane Gonzales has really developed into a very dependable kicker.  
• Jordan Simone may be the most irreplaceable piece of the ASU defense. 
• The Duke offensive line did a nice job on the Sun Devil defensive line. 
• I'm excited to see what the Mike Bercovicci era brings.  
• Arizona State had a nice recruiting week leading up to this game. 
• Count me as a big fan of Duke coach David Cutcliffe.  
• You cannot help but be impressed with Duke WR Jamison Crowder. 
• Up next?  Texas A&M to kick of the 2015 season.
