Cardinals 19, 49ers 13
The Cardinals continued to roll with a 19-13 win over the 49ers today in San Francisco. The Cardinals improve to 9-2 on the season, they still hold a 3 game lead over the Seahawks in the NFC West (with 5 games to go). This game was much tougher than I had anticipated, but you take an ugly road/division win anytime you can get them. A top 2 seed in the playoffs is well within reach.
Observations:
Observations:
- I seems the Cardinals overlooked the 49ers a bit coming into this game.
- Tyrann Mathieu was all over the field once again.
- I got nervous watching Carson Palmer scramble for that touchdown.
- The Cardinals only averaged 2.6 yards per rushing attempt.
- Tony Jefferson's 4th quarter sack may have been the key play of the game.
- Did it really take the Cardinals 9 plays inside the 5 yard line to score a touchdown?
- I was worried that missed extra point would haunt the Cardinals.
- Loved the effort from Jermaine Gresham to pick up that late first down.
- First Downs: Cardinals 26, 49ers 17
- Total Plays: Cardinals 70, 49ers 55
- Time of Possession: Cardinals 37:27, 49ers 22:33
- Turnovers: 49ers 2, Cardinals 0
- The 49ers didn't convert one third down all game.
- Hopefully, none of the Cardinals injuries are serious.
- How is it possible that the Cardinals hadn't won in San Francisco since 2008?
- Carson Palmer needs to work on his spike.
- How did Tremaine Brook drop that interception?
- Chris Johnson may have hit the wall.
- Blaine Gabbert appears to be a better fit in San Francisco than he was in Jacksonville.
- I think Jim Tomsulu may be a one and done guy.
- Up next? @ St. Louis to take on the Rams next Sunday.
Vikings 20, Falcons 10
The Vikings knocked off the Falcons 20-10 today in Atlanta. The Vikings improve to 8-3 on the season with this win. The Vikings take over sole possession of first place in the NFC North with 5 games to go. They've also bested last seasons win total with this win. That's 6 wins in their last 7 games now. They are on a role, I have no idea what happened last week. Nice win Vikings! Keep it rolling!
Observations:
Observations:
- Adrian Peterson carried the Vikings offense today.
- Anthony Barr was an absolute beast today.
- Teddy Bridgewater looks afraid to make a mistake.
- Kyle Rudolph has upped his game the last few weeks.
- That clipping penalty on the Falcons was huge for the Vikings.
- At what point should Bridgwater's lack of a deep ball be a concern?
- When Everson Griffen is on his game, he's a terror.
- Good Terrance Newman showed up today.
- Turnovers: Falcons 3, Vikings 1
- At least Mike Wallace can draw a pass interference penalty.
- Red zone turnovers are the worst.
- Somehow the Vikings did not give up a sack today.
- Rhett Ellison got some serious YAC today.
- The Vikings offense could really use another playmaker.
- Xavier Rhodes did a nice job on Julio Jones today.
- The Vikings are going to need to clean up their penalty issue.
- Antone Exum Jr did a capable job of replacing Harrison Smith.
- Updated Vikings draft needs: OL, WR, DB
- Matt Ryan is highly overrated at this point.
- Up next? Seahawks @ Minneapolis next Sunday.
California 48, Arizona State 46
The Sun Devils closed their regular season tonight with a 48-46 loss to California in Berkeley. Arizona State finishes their season with a 6-6 record. It was another heartbreaker, they had a double digit lead at the half, they then fell apart late once again and eventually lost on a field goal as time ran out. Really disappointing season for ASU considering the expectations.
Observations:
Observations:
- Arizona State may want to reconsider it's defensive philosophy.
- Mike Bercovici & Devin Lucien have developed some nice chemistry.
- Arizona State gave up way too many big plays.
- Jared Goff did a great job of picking up the Arizona State blitzes.
- Tim White has quietly had a very nice season for Arizona State.
- Those 6 field goals by ASU tonight is sign of a poor red zone offense.
- Who exactly is Lord Carrington anyways?
- Total Yards: California 680, Arizona State 586
- Time of Possession: Arizona State 37:38, California 22:22
- Second Half Score: California 38, Arizona 19
- Demario Richard continues to roll, he's now over 1000 yards rushing on the season.
- I see why NFL scouts are so high on Jared Goff.
- California's half time adjustments proved to be much more effective than ASU's.
- Seventy three yard punts are always welcome.
- Having a kicker who can kickoff out of the end zone is a nice weapon.
- Up next? Bowl game, time and place to be determined.

Wisconsin 31, Minnesota 21
The Gophers concluded their 2015 season today with a 31-21 loss to Wisconsin in Minneapolis. The Gophers conclude their 2015 season with a 5-7 record. I was hoping for better but considering the Coach Kill resignation, all of the injuries and their lack of depth, they finished about where they belong. I'm confident they will improve next year though, their schedule is much easier and they did get a lot of guys some very valuable experience.
Observations:
Observations:
- Briean Boddy-Calhoun couldn't have played that pick-6 any better.
- The interior of the Gophers defensive line was in a shambles.
- KiAnte Hardin appears to have a knack for returning kicks.
- Why didn't the Gophers use any of their timeouts to close the first half?
- You're not going to win when you keep fumbling the football.
- The Badgers didn't need Corey Clement today.
- I think that De'Vondre Campbell will be playing on Sundays.
- Credit where credit is due, Wisconsin's defense is good.
- Nick Rallis flashed late in this game.
- Time of Possession: Wisconsin 40:35, Minnesota 19:25
- Turnovers: Minnesota 5, Wisconsin 1
- Pass interference most certainly should have been called on Wisconsin late.
- Worst decision by the Gophers this year? Not redshirting Demry Croft.
- The Gophers need to find a way to improved their pass rush next season.
- Perhaps the Gophers should have guarded Alex Erickson closer on third down.
- Injuries have really decimated this Gophers football team.
- The Paul Bunyon Axe remains in Madison for yet another year.
- Five wins could still get the Gophers to a Bowl game.
- It was nice to see Jerry Kill on hand for Senior Day.
- You can't tell me that the B1G Network can't do better than Matt Millen.
- I can see Wisconsin DC Dave Aranda getting a head coaching job soon.
- Up next? Oregon State in Minneapolis to kick of the 2016 season.

Cardinals 34, Bengals 31
The Cardinals knocked off the Bengals 34-31 tonight in Glendale on SNF. The Cardinals improve to 8-2 on the season. The Cardinals maintain their 3 game lead in the NFL West and are hot on the Panthers tail for the number seed in the playoffs. This was much tighter than it needed to be, the Cardinals really controlled most of the game but allowed the Bengals to stay close. They need to get tighten things up a bit. Overall though, a nice win over a quality opponent.
Observations:
Observations:
- Carson Palmer was clutch on that late Cardinals scoring drive!
- The Cardinals rookie class continues to shine.
- Patrick Peterson vs A.J. Green is fun to watch.
- I think that Carson Palmer belongs in the NFL MVP conversation.
- Dwight Freeney is looking like a nice mid-season pickup.
- The Cardinals defense gets a bit too undisciplined at times.
- I like the future of Markus Golden, he's just relentless.
- That looked like a fumble to me on the Bengals kick return.
- The Cardinals WR depth is getting crazy.
- J.J. Nelson has got some wheels!
- Third Quarter Scoring: Cardinals 21, Bengals 0
- Kevin Minter has stepped up his game this season.
- Michael Floyd was missed tonight, he'd been playing well.
- Smokey Brown doesn't look like he's at full speed.
- The Cardinals DL depth is being tested.
- So much for that top ranked Bengals defense.
- You won't convince me that this win wasn't special to Carson Palmer.
- Geno Atkins is just a beast. So quick off the ball.
- The roof at University of Phoenix Stadium was actually open for this one!
- Up next? @ San Francisco to take on the 49ers.
Packers 30, Vikings 13
The Vikings fell to the Packers 30-13 today in Minneapolis. The Vikings fall to 7-3 on the season and that Packers retake sole possession of first place (via tiebreaker) in the NFC North. It was a pretty disappointing effort all around by the Vikings, they really got beat up today. As bad as it was, it's just one game, the Vikings are still in position to grab a Wildcard spot, they still control their destiny.
Observations:
Observations:
- The Vikings really stink on the national stage.
- The Packers won the battle of the trenches on both sides of the ball.
- Teddy Bridgewater was constantly under pressure today.
- It would be nice to see Mike Wallace start contributing.
- The Packers did a very good job of containing Adrian Peterson.
- I expected more blitzes out of Mike Zimmer.
- The Packers are 10-1-1 in the last 12 games against the Vikings.
- Why every team doesn't stack the box vs the Vikings is beyond me.
- Sacks: Packers 6, Vikings 2
- It was good to see Kyle Rudolph have a nice day.
- Too many stupid penalties by the Vikings today.
- That was a bad pass interference call on Terrance Newman.
- Cordarrelle Patterson needs to play with more composure.
- Brandon Fusco got eaten for lunch most of the game.
- I am beyond sick on Aaron Rodgers, retire already.
- Early Vikings draft needs: OL, OL, OL
- Eddie Lacy sure has gotten fat, he's a load.

Arizona State 52, Arizona 37
The Sun Devils knocked off Arizona 52-37 today in Tempe to reclaim the Territorial Cup. The Sun Devils improve to 6-5 on the season with this win, they also became bowl eligible. The Sun Devils have responded well to that 3 game losing streak they had just a couple of weeks ago. Still a disappointing season overall but beating Arizona lessens the sting a bit. Nice win Devils!
Observations:
Observations:
- Demario Richard & Kallen Ballage make for quite the RB tandem.
- That was a horrible pass by Mike Bercovici on that pick-6.
- Very impressive first ever collegiate catch for Jalen Harvey.
- Kareem Orr has had quite an impressive freshman season.
- There was no quit in the Wildcats today, they fought hard until the end.
- Devin Lucien certainly deserved the Bob Moran MVP Award.
- Mike Bercovici warrants at least an NFL tryout next year.
- Lloyd Carrington did a nice job staying in bounds on that pick-6.
- Total Yards: Arizona State 565, Arizona 449
- Turnovers: Arizona 3, Arizona State 2
- More touches for D.J. Foster would have been nice.
- This win was a nice send off to the seniors.
- Arizona really missed Anu Solomon today.
- That 95 yard touchdown catch by Trey Griffey was pretty impressive.
- I'm honestly getting a little tired of all of the ASU uniform combos.
- Davonte Neal had a rough game for Arizona.
- Brandon Dawkins > Jerrard Randle at QB for Arizona.
- I think the Todd Graham vs Rich Rodriguez rivalry may have come to an end today.
- Shouldn't the Territorial Cup game be the last game of the season?
- Up next? @ California next week to close their regular season.
Minnesota 32, Illinois 23
The Gophers knocked off Illinois 32-23 today in Minneapolis. The Gophers improve to 5-6 on the season with this win. This win ends Minnesota's 4 game losing streak. The Gophers are still one win away from bowl eligibility with one game remaining. It wasn't a pretty win, but with all of the injuries they are playing through, it was nice to see them find a way to get it done. I'm guessing they are one of the better six loss teams in the country. Next week is huge!
Observations:
Observations:
- Coach Claeys is on the board! Congrats on first official win!
- Much better job at clock management by Claeys & company today.
- I loved the 2 point conversion late in the game by the Gophers.
- The improvement from Mitch Leidner this season has been quite remarkable.
- That sure looked like a TD by Mitch Leidner to close the first half.
- Kiante Hardin sure did open some eyes today with his play.
- What a day from Gopher true freshman RB Shannon Brooks.
- Briean Boddy-Calhoun's draft stock is slipping by the week.

2016 Presidential Field Update
Bobby Jindal has thrown in the towel on his 2016 Presidential ambitions. That leaves us with 17 candidates still in the running, 14 Republicans and 3 Democrats.
Here's how the remaining rank in my opinion (as far as their chances):
Democrats:
Here's how the remaining rank in my opinion (as far as their chances):
Democrats:
Republicans:
- Donald Trump
- Ben Carson
- Marco Rubio
- Ted Cruz
- Jeb Bush
- Carly Fiorina
- Rand Paul
- Chris Christie
- John Kasich
- Mike Huckabee
- Rick Santorum
- Lindsey Graham
- George Pataki
- Jim Gilmore
I'm not surprised that Jindal's candidacy never took off, he did a horrible job in Louisiana and was pretty much disliked by everyone there. I think he calculated that his bid for the Presidency would be easier if he took a hard turn to the far right and he lost in that calculation. Long story short, he sold out his state for his own political ambitions and that's a hard sell in a national election. Good riddance Bobby Jindal.

Sicario
Sicario - starring Emily Blount, Josh Brolin & Benicio Del Toro. I actually saw this movie a couple of weeks ago. I loved it, I think that it's easily one of the best films of 2015. It's a very powerful look at drug cartel violence along the U.S./Mexico border. The central question the film poses is how far we as a society should be willing to go to bring an end to the violence. Blunt stars as FBI agent Kate Macer, she's recruited to join a task force of government agencies to track down the head of a Sonoran drug cartel. Brolin plays Matt Garver, he heads the task force and he is more than willing to blur the lines of acceptable behavior to accomplish his mission. Del Toro plays the mysterious Alejandro, his background is unknown but he's very determined to fulfill his task, damn the consequences. It's all quite griping and blends together quite well thanks to the direction of Denis Villeneuve. Great movie, it's quite powerful and really makes you think.
I will give it 4 out of 5 stars (*****).

Cardinals 39, Seahawks 32
The Cardinals went into Seattle tonight and knocked off the Seahawks 39-32. The Cardinals improve to 7-2 on the season with this win. This win wasn't easy, they were up 19-0 at one point, then lost the lead in the fourth quarter only to pull away again at he end. This was a big win, it meant the difference between having a 3 game lead over Seattle in the NFC West and having a 1 game lead (with 7 games to go). Nice win Cardinals!
Observations:
Observations:
- Hold onto that damn ball Carson Palmer.
- The Cardinals offensive line got destroyed late in this one.
- Michael Floyd has been having a real nice season.
- The Cardinals should have had 2 safeties in this game.
- Amazing effort by Jaron Brown on that deflected ball.
- First Downs: Cardinals 30, Seahawks 18
- Turnovers: Cardinals 3, Seahawks 1
- Total Plays: Cardinals 84, Seahawks 52
- Time of Possession: Cardinals 38:52; Seahawks 21:08
- Seattle is not an easy place for an opposing team to win a football game.
- Yes, Larry Fitzgerald somehow got two feet in on that catch.
- Jermaine Gresham was a nice off season pick up by the Cards.
- How did you miss that catch Michael Floyd?
- Drew Stanton was very happy about that late Cardinals touchdown.
- Robert Massie has got to play better.
- Lots of penalties in this game, on both sides.
- David Johnson did not have his best night returning kicks.
- That was not the same Seahawk team we saw in Super Bowl XLIX.
- That Mike Iupati injury didn't look good. Hopefully, he is okay.
- Up next? Bengals next Sunday night from the University of Phoenix Stadium.
Vikings 30, Raiders 14
The Vikings knocked off the Raiders 30-14 today in Oakland. The Vikings record improves to 7-2 on the season with this win. That's five wins in a row for the Vikings, they are playing some good football. They also match last seasons win total, with seven games still to go. The Vikings also took over sole possession of first place in the NFC North. I'm really liking this Vikings team!
Observations:
Observations:
- The Vikings defense is Super Bowl caliber.
- Adrian Peterson is back! Heckuva game from AP.
- Derek Carr > Teddy Bridgewater. Carr has a much better arm.
- How did Kyle Rudolph manage to drop that sure touchdown pass?
- Bridgewater seems reluctant to throw the ball down the field.
- Terence Newman has turned into quite the offseason pickup.
- Don't tell me that Cordarrelle Patterson doesn't have a role on theVikings.
- Yet another strong game from Linval Joseph.
- The Vikings defense was hitting hard.
- Turnovers: Raiders 2, Vikings 0
- The Raiders offense had averaged 35 points/game in their last 3 games.
- Did Brandon Watts really start at LB for the Vikings?
- It was an up and down day for Blair Walsh.
- Adrian Peterson's assault on the record book continues.
- How did the Vikings manage only 122 passing yards against the Raiders?
- That Raider punt that was ruled down at the 3 should have been a touchback.
- Did Antone Exum really tackle a fan?
- AC/DC has the looks of a nice tandem going forward for the Raiders.
- Do you think the Raider fans will follow them to Los Angeles/San Diego?
- Up next? Green Bay Packers in Minneapolis next Sunday.

Iowa 40, Minnesota 35
The Gophers fell to Iowa 40-35 tonight in Iowa City. The Gophers fall to 4-6 on the season. The Gophers will need to win their final 2 games to become bowl eligible. Injuries, poor officiating and uncharacteristically sub-par tackling did them in tonight. I have to admit, I was hoping for a better performance out of the Gophers this season, but their schedule is brutal (5 of those 6 losses have been against ranked teams), their coach had to retire and injuries have decimated them this year. On the bright side, there are lots of building blocks getting valuable playing time, recruiting is going well and next years schedule is much easier.
Observations:
Observations:
- Mitch Leidner has surprisingly become a nice passing QB.
- Was Jerry Kill holding back Matt Limegrover?
- I loved that Shannon Brooks to Drew Wolitarsky TD pass!
- K.J. Maye has become a pretty good WR.
- Shannon Brooks played well in his first collegiate start.
- Rodrick Williams Jr has fresh legs!
- The Gopher defense just couldn't get off the field on 3rd down.
- Lots of missed tackles by the Gophers tonight.
- Brandon Lingen has been a revelation at TE this season.
- Steven Richardson & Scott Ekpe were sorely missed in this game.
- Penalties: Minnesota 10 for 72 yards; Iowa 4 for 50 yards.
- Time of Possession: Iowa 35:32; Minnesota 24:28
- I once again wasn't impressed by the B1G officiating. Call it both ways!
- Tyler Moore has really impressed me, he's going to be a good one.
- Injuries have really depleted the Gophers depth.
- I hate when Ryan Santoso doesn't kick the ball out of the endzone.
- Floyd of Rosedale is headed back to Iowa City.
- I was impressed with C.J. Beathard, he's a pretty good QB.
- Can Iowa really make it to the college football playoffs?
- Matt Millen is really annoying on the B1G Network.
- Up next? Illinois next Saturday in Minneapolis.
Arizona State 27, Washington 17
The Sun Devils knocked off Washington 27-17 today in Tempe. Arizona State improves to 5-5 on the season. Arizona State inexplicably scored the final 27 points in this one. They apparently weren't used to the early start time. They finished strong though, you take that any time. The Sun Devils are still 1 win away from bowl eligibility with 2 games to go, I think they can get there. Nice comeback Sun Devils!!!
Observations:
Observations:
- The Sun Devils seemed to sleep through the first half.
- It's hard to pass when your QB can't stay upright.
- Antonio Longino really provided a nice spark for the Sun Devils.
- D.J. Foster just continues to catch passes!
- It appears that Kallen Ballage is completely healthy!
- Arizona State has given up way too many big plays this year.
- Where have you been hiding Christian Sam?
- I hate seeing Jordan Simone hurt, class act all the way.
- Total Yards: Washington 547, Arizona State 397
- Turnovers: Washington 4, Arizona State 0
- I love it when players step up big when given an opportunity.
- Devin Lucien has been a really solid WR for Arizona State this year.
- How can you not like a player named Gump?
- The Sun Devil defense really turned things up in the second half.
- Arizona State has now beaten Washington 10 straight times.
- Did the Sun Devils look more like the Steelers or the Hawkeyes today?
- It was nice to see a French flag in the stands at Sun Devil Stadium.
- Paranoid much Washington?
- I still hate you PAC-12 Network.
- Up next? Arizona next Saturday in Tempe for the Territorial Cup.
