2014 TPSG NFL Mock Draft 3.0

With NFL Free Agency pretty much shaken out, it seems like a good time to update my NFL Mock Draft.  So here goes:
  1. Houston Texans - Blake Bortles - QB - Central Florida
  2. St Louis Rams - Greg Robinson - OT - Auburn
  3. Jacksonville Jaguars - Jadeveon Clowney - DE - South Carolina
  4. Cleveland Browns - Johnny Manziel - QB - Texas A&M
  5. Oakland Raiders - Khalil Mack - LB - Buffalo
  6. Atlanta Falcons - Jake Matthews - OT - Texas A&M
  7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Sammy Watkins - WR - Clemson
  8. Minnesota Vikings - Teddy Bridgewater - QB - Louisville
  9. Buffalo Bills - Mike Evans - WR - Texas A&M
  10. Detroit Lions - Justin Gilbert - CB - Oklahoma State
  11. Tennessee Titans - Anthony Barr - LB - UCLA
  12. New York Giants - Taylor Lewan - OT - Michigan
  13. St Louis Rams - Marqise Lee - WR - USC
  14. Chicago Bears - Timmy Jernigan - DT - Florida State
  15. Pittsburgh Steelers - Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix - DB - Alabama
  16. Dallas Cowboys - Aaron Donald - DT - Pitt
  17. Baltimore Ravens - Darqueze Dennard - CB - Michigan State
  18. New York Jets - Eric Ebron - TE - North Carolina
  19. Miami Dolphins - Zach Martin - OT - Notre Dame
  20. Arizona Cardinals - RaShede Hageman - DT - Minnesota
  21. Green Bay Packers - C.J. Mosley - LB - Alabama
  22. Philadelphia Eagles - Calvin Pryor - DB - Louisville
  23. Kansas City Chiefs - Odell Beckham - WR - Louisiana State
  24. Cincinnati Bengals - Kyle Fuller - CB - Virginia Tech
  25. San Diego Chargers - Jason Verrett - CB - TCU
  26. Cleveland Browns - Kelvin Benjamin - WR - Florida State
  27. New Orleans Saints - Kony Ealy - DE - Missouri
  28. Carolina Panthers - Cyrus Kouandjio - OT - Alabama
  29. New England Patriots - Jace Amaro - TE - Texas Tech
  30. San Francisco 49ers - Bradin Cooks - WR - Oregon State
  31. Denver Broncos - Bradley Roby - CB - Ohio State
  32. Seattle Seahawks - Dee Ford - DE - Auburn

Notes:
  • I think it's safe to say it's either Bortles or Clowney for the Texans at number 1 overall.
  • Greg Robinson seems like a no brainer for the Rams at number 2.
  • Gus Bradley has to be drooling at the prospects of Clowney in his defense.
  • Me thinks the Browns doth protest too much in regards to Johnny Manziel.
  • The Raiders are a wildcard, they could do anything, Mack is the best on board though.
  • I'm not convinced that the Vikings will go QB at number 8, they may just wait until round 2 (or trade down later in round 1) and hope for Garoppolo or Carr.  I'm not sure where they'd go if not QB at number 8, maybe Anthony Barr.  An early QB will happen though.
  • I have to believe that the Cardinals will go DL, with a DB is also being a possibility.

TPSG Top 10 Movies of 2002

Continuing with my look at the best movies of years gone by.

Top 10 Movies of 2002:
  1. The Bourne Identity - Matt Damon, Franka Potente
  2. The Pianist - Adrien Brody, Thomas Kretschmann
  3. Gangs of New York - Leonardo DiCaprio, Daniel Day-Lewis
  4. Spider-Man - Tobey Maguire, Willem Dafoe
  5. Austin Powers: Goldmember - Mike Myers, Beyonce Knowles
  6. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers - Elijah Wood, Viggo Mortenson
  7. Insomnia - Al Pacino, Robin Williams
  8. Minority Report - Tom Cruise, Colin Ferrell
  9. Red Dragon - Anthony Hopkins, Edward Norton
  10. K-19: The Widowmaker - Harrison Ford, Liam Neeson
I loved all of the Jason Bourne movies, especially the one that started them all, "The Bourne Identity".  Say what you will about Roman Polanski but he knows how to make a movie, "The Pianist" is a tremendous film.  Speaking of great filmmakers, Martin Scorsese scored another one with "Gangs of New York".  Daniel Day-Lewis as Bill the Butcher was also worth the price of admission in that one.  I went into "Spider-Man" with low expectations but I was pleasantly surprised by Toby Maguire's depiction of Peter Parker.  "Austin Powers: Goldmember" was the funniest movie of 2002.  "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" is everything a great movie should be.  Al Pacino, Robin Williams & Christopher Nolan make for a great combination in "Insomnia".   While I don't care much for Tom Cruise's religious beliefs, I love his movies, "Minority Report" is a very good action flick, having Steven Spielberg on board didn't hurt either.  It doesn't get much better than Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter, "Red Dragon" continued that story.  Who doesn't like a good submarine thriller, "K-19: The Widowmaker" is a very good one, it's an intense, suspenseful movie made even more scary by the fact that it's based upon a true story.

TPSG Top 10 Guilty Pleasure Movies

We all have them, lightly acclaimed box office duds that for some reason you just can't get enough of.

Here are my Top 10 Guilty Pleasure Movies:
  1. Project X - Thomas Mann, Oliver Cooper
  2. Crank - Jason Stratham, Amy Smart
  3. Piranha 3D - Elisabeth Shue, Jerry O'Connell
  4. xXx - Vin Diesel, Samuel L Jackson
  5. Wild Things - Matt Dillion, Kevin Bacon
  6. Turistas  - Josh Duhamel, Melissa George
  7. Hitman - Timothy Olyphant, Olga Kurylenko
  8. Poison Ivy:  The New Seduction - Jaime Pressly, Michael Des Barres
  9. Cruel Intentions - Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe
  10. Showgirls - Elizabeth Berkley, Kyle MacLachlan
I could not stop laughing while watching "Project X", what kid doesn't want to throw a bash like that?   "Crank" is just non-stop action and excitement from start to finish, I loved it!  "Piranha 3D" was the epitome of stupid fun, catch it in 3-D if you can, especially for Riley Steele\Kelly Brook's scenes.  "xXx" was a very underrated action/adventure film.  That Neve Campbell/Denise Richards scene from "Wild Things" is still ingrained into my memory.  "Turistas" isn't very scary for a horror flick but it does have an exotic Brazilian locale, beaches and lots of hot girls in bikinis, that's a winning combo in my book.  "Hitman" is the movie that introduced me to Olga Kurylenko, enough said!  Speaking of which, I feel in love with Jaime Pressly in "Poison Ivy: The New Seduction".  "Cruel Intentions" has a preposterous plot, but it's so twisted that it really sucks you in, and that kiss.  You know the deal with "Showgirls", it was as dumb as it get's, but c'mon it's about a Las Vegas stripper turned showgirl, talk about raunchy fun!

300: Rise of an Empire

300: Rise of an Empire - starring Sullivan Stapleton & Eva Green.  Despite it's negative reviews, I decided to go see "300: Rise of an Empire" this past weekend.  This one is actually a prequel to "300", it shows how the Spartans and the Greeks joined forces to fight against the mighty Persian army.  I'm not quite sure what movie some of those critics saw, I thought this movie was pretty good.  Granted, the original was better, but that movie set the bar pretty high, I was still plenty entertained by this one, it was action packed, fast moving, the CGI was very well done, they even threw in a little erotic fun.  What's not to like?

I'll give it 4 out of 5 stars (*****).

TPSG Top 10 Movies of 2003

Continuing with my look at the best movies of years gone by.

Top 10 Movies of 2003:
  1. Mystic River - Sean Penn, Tim Robbins
  2. Kill Bill, Volume 1 - Uma Thurman, David Carradine
  3. Old School - Luke Wilson, Vince Vaughn
  4. 28 Days Later - Cillian Murphy, Naomi Harris
  5. The Lord of the Rings:  The Return of the King - Ian McKellen, Viggo Mortensen
  6. Lost in Translation - Bill Murray, Scarlett Johansson
  7. Monster - Charlize Theron, Christina Ricci
  8. Master and Commander:  The Far Side of the World - Russell Crowe, Paul Bettany
  9. Seabiscuit - Toby Maguire, Jeff Bridges
  10. Elf - Will Ferrell, James Caan
In my opinion, "Mystic River" was easily the best film of 2003, great story, great acting, great directing, it's everything a movie should be. "Kill Bill, Volume 1" is a another fast paced, action packed, incredibly violent and very fun film by Quentin Tarantino.  "Old School" was the funniest movie of the year, there are several laugh out loud moments from Frank the Tank and company.  Director Danny Boyle did a wonderful job of rejuvenating the zombie genre with "28 Days Later".  "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" is just a tremendous piece of filmmaking in nearly every aspect, it has to be on this list.  Bill Murray shows his acting chops in "Lost In Translation", he and Scarlett Johansson have great chemistry in this one.  The transformation of Charlize Theron in "Monster" was astounding, her Oscar win was well deserved.  Russell Crowe gives one of his best performances in "Master and Commander".  "Seabiscuit" is a true underdog story about a racehorse of all things. "Elf" will no doubt go down as a Christmas classic, Will Ferrell is hilarious as the overgrown Elf.

2014 TGPS NFL Mock Draft 2.0

The NFL Scouting Combine is has come and gone so I think it's time for a post combine NFL mock draft.  Keep in mind, free agency kicks off on March 11, that will most likely change things too. The big movers on this mock draft are Derek Carr & Aaron Donald.  So here goes:
  1. Houston Texans - Blake Bortles - QB - Central Florida
  2. St Louis Rams - Greg Robinson - OT - Auburn
  3. Jacksonville Jaguars - Jadeveon Clowney - DE - South Carolina
  4. Cleveland Browns - Sammy Watkins - WR - Clemson
  5. Oakland Raiders - Johnny Manziel - QB - Texas A&M
  6. Atlanta Falcons - Jake Matthews - OT - Texas A&M
  7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Khalil Mack - LB - Buffalo
  8. Minnesota Vikings - Teddy Bridgewater - QB - Louisville
  9. Buffalo Bills - Anthony Barr - LB - UCLA
  10. Detroit Lions - Justin Gilbert - CB - Oklahoma State
  11. Tennessee Titans - Taylor Lewan - OT - Michigan
  12. New York Giants - C.J. Mosley - LB - Alabama
  13. St Louis Rams - Mike Evans - WR - Texas A&M
  14. Chicago Bears - Timmy Jernigan - DT - Florida State
  15. Pittsburgh Steelers - Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix - DB - Alabama
  16. Dallas Cowboys - Aaron Donald - DT - Pitt
  17. Baltimore Ravens - Marqise Lee - WR - USC
  18. New York Jets - Eric Ebron - TE - North Carolina
  19. Miami Dolphins - Zach Martin - OT - Notre Dame
  20. Arizona Cardinals - Kony Ealy - DE - Missouri
  21. Green Bay Packers - RaShede Hageman - DT - Minnesota
  22. Philadelphia Eagles - Calvin Pryor - DB - Louisville
  23. Kansas City Chiefs - Odell Beckham - WR - Louisiana State
  24. Cincinnati Bengals - Darqueze Dennard - CB - Michigan State
  25. San Diego Chargers - Jason Verrett - CB - TCU
  26. Cleveland Browns - Derek Carr - QB - Fresno State
  27. New Orleans Saints - Dee Ford - DE - Auburn
  28. Carolina Panthers - Cyrus Kouandjio - OT - Alabama
  29. New England Patriots - Jace Amaro - TE - Texas Tech
  30. San Francisco 49ers - Kyle Fuller - CB - Virginia Tech
  31. Denver Broncos - Louis Nix - DT - Notre Dame
  32. Seattle Seahawks - Kelvin Benjamin - WR - Florida State

Notes:
  • I'm sticking with Blake Bortles as number 1 overall, QB is the most important position on any team and the Texans need to solidify that spot.  Clowney is a possibility too, I'm just not sure that DE is all that pressing of a need for the Texans.
  • The Rams will have to be tempted by Clowney too but they absolutely must do something about that OL, I can't see them passing on OT help. A trade down is a distinct possibility for the Rams too.
  • Clowney shouldn't drop below number 3, I'm guessing that Gus Bradley is salivating over the possibility of using him in the Jags defense.
  • I'm fairly certain that the Browns will take a QB in round 1, I'm not entirely sure which one though, or where, recent speculation is that they are very high on Derek Carr, but not at number 4 overall.
  • The Vikings would have to be absolutely thrilled if Teddy Bridgewater falls to them at number 8.
  • It appears that the Cardinals are looking at solidifying their OL via free agency rather than the draft.  If so, I'm guessing they look at DL help.  If not, don't be shocked if they go OL here.
