Right Wing Nut Jobs!
The recent Supreme Court health care decision is really bringing out the nut jobs, here's my Top 10 favorites:
Timberwolves Thoughts
- I was fine with the Chase Budinger trade, I don't think they were going to land anyone at 18 who would have a bigger impact for them than Budinger, he's a proven commodity, he's versatile, he's familiar with head coach Rick Adelman's system, he's still only 24, he's still got plenty of room to grow, he works hard and he's cheap (which will free up cap space to bring in a bigger target).
- I'm not fine with a proposed Derrick Williams for Pau Gasol trade. Granted Gasol is the better player right now, and it's not even really very close, but Gasol is 32, he's seen his best days, he's on the downside of his career. Gasol's contract is also horrendous, he's owed $38 million over the next 2 years. Williams on the other hand is just 21, his best years are still ahead of him, it just seems way too early to give up on him (at least for an aging, overpaid Pau Gasol).
- I do think the Wolves need to make a big push to upgrade their roster and I'm fine with them parting with Derrick Williams in the right deal (just not the proposed Gasol deal). I would be targeting guys like Rudy Gay, Andre Iguodala, Nicolas Batum & Luol Deng. Secondary pieces like Brandon Roy, Kevin Martin, Jamal Crawford, Alexy Shved & OJ Mayo would also help (although not at the risk of missing out on one of those primary pieces).
- I was also okay with the selection of Robbie Hummel in the draft, minus the knee problems he had at Purdue he would have gone in round one. He finished last year strong and if he continues to progress he could be a solid end of the bench guy who can give some quality minutes when asked. Let's be honest too, 2nd round draft picks rarely contribute, why play it safe with the pick, why not take a gamble on someone with some upside?

Maddow Looks at U.S. Health Care
Very informative. We should expect better. Don't let the GOP take us backwards.
Romney on the Individual Mandate
" Our experience also demonstrates that getting every citizen insured doesn't have to break the bank. First,
we established incentives for those who were uninsured to buy
insurance. Using tax penalties, as we did, or tax credits, as others
have proposed, encourages "free riders" to take responsibility for
themselves rather than pass their medical costs on to others. This
doesn't cost the government a single dollar. Second, we helped pay for
our new program by ending an old one — something government should do
more often. The federal government sends an estimated $42 billion to
hospitals that care for the poor: Use those funds instead to help the
poor buy private insurance, as we did." - Mitt Romney

Supreme Court Upholds Obamacare
Surprising decision today from the U.S. Supreme Court, they upheld President Obama's Affordable Care Act. With a 5-4 conservative edge I thought for sure that they'd overturn the individual mandate but low and behold, Justice Roberts sided with the liberal wing of the court to give them a 5-4 majority. I am very happy about this decision, I'm a bid fan of it (although I'd prefer a single payer system), so I was very heartened by this decision. I've got to believe that Justice Roberts was concerned about the legacy of his court as well as it's legitimacy (as they've leaned right on pretty much every major decision since Robert was appointed). I don't really care about the reasons, I'm just happy they upheld it, the system has been broken for way too long, it was the right thing to do. It's going to be interesting watching the right wing lunatic reaction to this decision, I'm guessing it will be highly entertaining.

TPSG 2012 NBA Mock Draft 2.0
A week and a half to go until the 2012 NBA Draft. It's time for another mock, here goes:
***** The Timberwolves would like a wing player too, I had them selecting Quincy Miller in my Mock Draft 1.0 and I still wouldn't mind seeing that happen (he is a bit of a risk but his upside is unlimited). That being said, Terrence Ross would be a much safer pick, if he's still available at #18 I could see them Wolves picking him. Given that Darko may not be back, it wouldn't shock me to see Tyler Zeller, Andrew Nicholson or Fab Melo go here either (if they keep the pick that is).

Aspirin
Have you heard the latest on aspirin? Apparently, it can help in the prevention of skin cancer!
A couple months ago it was found to help in the prevention of colon, esophageal, lung & prostate cancers.
It's been known for awhile to help people with heart disease and in the prevention of Alzheimer's disease.
It's cheap too, you go down to the dollar store and get 50-100 pills for a buck, do the math, that's less than $10 for a years supply.
I don't know about you but I'm about to start on a daily low dose aspirin regimen.

Sociopath
Sociopath - Someone whose social behavior is extremely abnormal. Sociopaths are interested only in their personal needs and desires, without concern for the effects of their behavior on others.
Sounds familiar doesn't it? Think someone who thinks nothing of lying to further his agenda. Think someone who thinks nothing of laying people off and gutting pension funds in order to personally profit from it. Think someone who was a bully as a kid. Think someone with a sense of entitlement.
Does any of that sound like Mitt Romney?

TPSG 2012 NBA Mock Draft 1.0
The NBA Draft is just 3 weeks away, it's time for a mock, here goes:
***** I'm not sure that the Timberwolves will keep this pick, it wouldn't surprise me if they included it in a deal to bring in another established starter (think someone like Pau Gasol, Rudy Gay, Kevin Martin, Andre Iguodola or Tyreke Evans) to join their young nucleus (Kevin Love, Ricky Rubio, Derrick Williams, Nikola Pekovik). That's probably easier said than done though. If they keep the pick, they need wings (OG's & SF's) and since I suspect that most of the top OG's will be gone, they will probably look at one of the many SF's who will be available. I like Quincy Miller a lot, I think he's going to be a steal for someone.

Joe Biden get's a lot of heat, but I like him, he get's it.
“We’re not anti-capitalist! For God sake, it’s the system that built the country! We hope investors do well. But you can’t build an economy, an economy of the future where the only people who do well are the investors and everybody else pays the price. You can’t do that,”

Bill Clinton on a Romney Presidency
“it would be, in my opinion, calamitous for our country and the world.”
“The politics is wrong on the Republican side, the economics are crazy,”
"The Republican Congress and their nominee for President, Governor Romney, have adopted Europe’s economic policies. Their economic policy is austerity and unemployment now, and then a long term budget that would explode the debt when the economy recovers so the interest rates would be so high nobody would be able to do anything."
I tend to concur.

Twins Select Byron Buxton
The Twins selected Byron Buxton #2 overall in today's MLB Draft. Great pick, I really like his potential. I think he will immediately become the Twins #2 overall prospect (behind Miguel Sano). It's nice to finally see some potential bats in their farm system after some lean years (in addition to Buxton & Sano, you can include Eddie Rosario, Oswaldo Arcia, Travis Harrison & Aaron Hicks).
