This game was incredibly reminiscent of the first meeting between these two teams earlier in the year. It's just not a good match up for the Sun Devils, Stanford once again proved to be just much too physical for them to handle. Give the Cardinal their due, they are a well coached, very disciplined and extremely physical football team, they are good, and they do things the right way. This didn't look like the same Sun Devil team that had reeled off seven straight wins though, they made some uncharacteristic mistakes that didn't help their cause. Still, it's been a fun season and they've still got a bowl game ahead of them. Go Devils!
Observations:
- So much for the Sun Devil home field advantage. This was their first home loss of the season.
- Stanford scored a touchdown on each of their first four possessions.
- Gutsy 4th down call by Todd Graham in the 1st quarter with the Sun Devils down 14-7.
- No Marion Grice tonight, he was missed, especially near the goal line.
- DJ Foster had a nice game, until he got hurt too.
- Even Zane Gonzales missed a field goal, he had hit 18 field goals in a row.
- That 99 yard touchdown drive by Stanford in the third quarter was a real back breaker.
- Total Yards: Stanford 517, Arizona State 311
- Stanford did a nice job of neutralizing Jaelen Strong and Chris Coyle.
- Arizona State needs to find themselves a punter before next season.
- Stanford completely dominated both sides of the line of scrimmage.
- Who is this Tyler Gaffney character? Where did he come from?
- David Shaw could probably have his pick of NFL head coach openings if he wanted.
- Stanford LB Shayne Skov is quite a football player.
- Up next? Holiday Bowl? Monday December 30, against Kansas State? Not sure.
