Obamacare Winners & Losers?

Does it appear to anyone else that the mainstream media is letting the right wing control the narrative on Obamacare? Listening to them you'd think that everybody is being hurt by Obamacare, yet that is far from the truth, just look at the chart below, are things really that bad?  And just think how things would look if the Republicans would stop trying to sabotage it and worked to improve it

Vikings 31, Packers 44

The Vikings lose another one, this time 44-31 to the Packers at the Metrodome.  The Vikings fall to 1-6 on the season.  What a disaster, they were in the playoffs last year, WTF happened?  I'm ready for a complete overhaul, they've basically been running the same schemes that Brad Childress brought with him in 2006, they're obviously not working, they really need to blow things up at this point. It's really getting rather embarrassing to watch.  Please make it end!

Observations:

Cardinals 27, Falcons 13

The Cardinals move to 4-4 on the season today with a 27-13 win over the Atlanta Falcons at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale.  I think this may have been the Cardinals most impressive game of the season, they were solid on both offense and defense, they really had the look of a team that wants to make a run down the stretch.  Nice game Cards!  Keep it up!

Minnesota 34, Nebraska 23

The Gophers knock off Nebraska 34-23 today in Minneapolis.  The Gophers improve to 6-2 on the season (and 2-2 in the B1G) and more importantly, the Gophers are now bowl eligible! This was undoubtedly the biggest win of the Jerry Kill era at Minnesota, it was certainly a victory worthy of a storming of the field.  Tracey Claeys was acting head coach once again.  Jerry Kill was in the press box coaching booth, I think his job is safe at this point though, the team seems to really be rallying around their coach and his health issues!  This could be that signature win that Kill has been looking for.

Vikings 7, Giants 23

The Vikings really stunk it up tonight on MNF as they fall to the previously winless Giants 23-7 in New York.  The Vikings fall to 1-5 on the season.  That is two stinkers in a row for the Vikes, I wouldn't blame Zygi Wilf if he made a coaching change tonight, this performance really was that unacceptable.  Could Mike Singletary, Mike Priefer or George Stewart really do any worse?  If nothing else it would send a message to the fans that ownership isn't going to put up with this garbage.  Either way, they're not going to win another game playing like this.

Elizabeth Warren

If the Tea Party was really as concerned about government waste as they claim to be, shouldn't they be having a conniption over this latest government shutdown?  And shouldn't they be big supporters of Elizabeth Warren?  Can you say hypocrites?

Arizona State 53, Washington 24

The Sun Devils routed 20th ranked Washington 53-24 today at Sun Devil Stadium. The Devils improve to 5-2 on the season (and 3-1 in the Pac-12).  This win puts the Devils in the driver's seat in the Pac-12 South.  The ASU defense was the key to this game, they just completely dominated a very good Washington offense.  If ASU can keep their defense playing at this level, combined with their already strong offense, they could really make some noise down the stretch.  Statement victory!

Observations:

Minnesota 20, Northwestern 17

Impressive 20-17 road victory for the Gophers today in Evanston, IL over Northwestern.  With this victory, the Gophers improve to 5-2 on the season (and 1-3 in the B1G).  The Gophers went into this game as a 12 point underdog and were playing without head coach Jerry Kill once again.  Reports are that Jerry Kill gave the team a half time speech, I don't know what he said but the Gophers played a heckuva second half.  Hopefully, they can get some positive momentum building down the stretch.

Cardinals 22, Seahawks 34

The Cardinals fall to the Seahawks 34-22 tonight in Glendale.  The Cardinals fall to 3-4 on the season.  It was a pretty dismal prime time performance by the Cards.  I'll put this one on their offense, specifically their offensive line, they were just pathetic.  Carson Palmer's struggled again too, but he was a sitting duck back there, I have a hard time pinning this lose on him when the OL played so poorly.  I'm putting the Cardinals at a maximum of 8 wins this season, hopefully fewer so that they will be in position to draft a quality QB or OL help early in next years NFL Draft.

Observations:
  • Another 2 interceptions by Carson Palmer.  70.4 QB rating for the night.
  • It was good to see Calais Campbell on the field tonight.
  • There's a reason Bradley Sowell was available to the Cardinals.  He stinks
  • The Seahawks secondary is pretty impressive.
  • It was nice to see John Abraham finally make his appearance felt.
  • The Cardinals could really use Jonathan Cooper about now.
  • Where are those deep throws Bruce Arians promised?
  • Carson Palmer was sacked 7 times tonight.  That's not going to cut it.
  • Total Yards:  Seahawks 345, Cardinals 234.
  • I have to believe that Larry Fitzgerald's hamstring is bothering him.  2 catches.
  • Cardinals kicker Jay Feely has been money so far this season.
  • The Cardinals offense was once again less than impressive.
  • I've been disappointed with Rashard Mendenhall this season.  1.7 yards per carry.
  • The roof was open at University of Phoenix Stadium!
  • I kind of liked the Brad Nessler/Mike Mayock combo on the NFL Network.
  • Up next?  @ home against the Atlanta Falcons next Sunday.

Cardinals 20, 49ers 32

The Cardinals fall to the 49ers 32-20 today in San Francisco.  The Cardinals fall to 3-3 on the season.  They were in this game until late, they just made too many costly mistakes to overcome.  You can definitely see progress being made from last year but they are just not there yet.  At least they are looking like a competent team this year.

Observations:

Vikings 10, Panthers 35

The Vikings lose to the Panthers 35-10 today in Minneapolis to fall to 1-4 on the season.  It was a pretty ugly game for the Vikings, they couldn't sustain their drives on offense and they couldn't get off the field defensively.  I'm not sure what the problem is at this point, I don't necessarily think it's lack of talent, to me it looks to be more of a problem of coaching and schemes, I'm just not entirely sure that they are maximizing their talent to it's full ability.  If I were Leslie Frazier, I would would start worrying out my job security.  The only reason they wouldn't fire him mid season is that there's really nobody on staff qualified to replace him.

Observations:
  • The Vikings played about as lifeless and uninspired as I have seen in a long time.
  • How do you lose by 25 points, at home, coming off bye week against a 1-3 team?
  • The Vikings really struggled picking up the blitz today.
  • Time of Possession:  Panthers 36:27, Vikings 23:33.
  • Matt Cassel certainly didn't grasp ahold of the starting QB job.
  • I suspect that Josh Freeman starts at QB for the Vikings next week
  • The Viking defenders were biting on that play action pass all game long.
  • Bill Musgrave & Alan Williams really have no business being NFL coordinators.
  • The Vikings defense has been just atrocious this year.
  • Desmond Bishop gets his first Vikings start and promptly gets injured?  Ouch.
  • My condolences to Adrian Peterson and his family/friends.
  • Yes, that was Matt Kalil & Ryan Kalil's sister Danielle Kalil singing the national anthem.
  • Up next?  @ New York to take on the Giants on MNF.

Arizona St 54, Colorado 13

The Sun Devils knocked off Colorado 54-13 on Saturday night as Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe.  Arizona State improves to 4-2 on the season.  Colorado is still just not a football team, it's amazing how far that program has fallen.  I can only imagine what the score would have been had Arizona State not taken their foot off the pedal in the second half.  Bring on the Huskies!

Bernie Sanders on Today's GOP

He's a wise man:

"The Republican party is now an extreme right-wing party that is owned by their billionaire campaign contributors."

"It is imperative that Rs stop holding the American people hostage and let us reopen the govt and pay our bills."

"How many people will die if the Affordable Care Act is repealed?"

"Median family income today is less than it was 24 years ago."

"We live in a country where health care is a privilege for the wealthy.  In the U.S. today 48 million people are uninsured and millions more have inadequate health care coverage with high deductibles and copayments.  Today, the U.S. lags behind almost every advanced country in terms of life expectancy and infant mortality and we spend almost twice as much per person on health care as any other nation."

"The Richest 1 Percent Hold 46 Percent Of The World's Wealth"

"You do not balance the budget on the backs of the elderly and poor."

"Tea Party-inspired groups have mobilized, aided by a financing network that continues to grow"

"In the midst of a severe recession, it is wrong to keep 800,000 Americans out of work."

Cardinals 22, Panthers 6

The Cardinals knock off the Panthers 22-6 today at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale.  The Cardinals improve to 3-2 on the season. You can credit the defense for this one, they completely dominated today.  The return of Daryl Washington from his 4 game suspension couldn't have come at a better time, he was everywhere today.  That being said, the Cardinals offense is going to need to play better going forward if they are going to make a playoff run.  Nice win

Observations:

John Boehner on Compromise

John Boehner has become such a clown of a Speaker of the House it's ridiculous.  He wants President Obama to compromise yet he himself "rejects the word" compromise.  Also, isn't the Democratc acceptance of the funding of the continuing resolution at sequestration levels a compromise anyways?  And what exactly would he be willing to give up in these negotiations that he is calling for?  What a mockery Boehner and the Tea Party are making of our government.

Arizona State 34, Notre Dame 37

The Sun  Devils fall to the Fighting Irish 37-34 tonight at Cowboy Stadium in Dallas.  It was a winnable game, the Sun Devils had their chances but they just couldn't put the Irish away.  Arizona State just continues to struggle in big games.  Fact is, the Sun Devils are a good team but they are just not at that elite level yet.  It's frustrating, but I think they are moving in the right direction.

Observations?
  • Taylor Kelly does seem to struggle in big games.
  • Yet another good game by ASU WR Jaelen Strong
  • The Sun Devil defense gave up way too many big plays.
  • The Notre Dame defense played a very disciplined game.
  • The Arizona State play calling left me scratching my head a few times.
  • Arizona State has scored first in 15 of 18 games coached by Todd Graham.
  • I thought that the Irish were stronger along both sides of the line.
  • Will Sutton appeared to be neutralized once again.
  • Marion Grice scores again!  To little, too late though.
  • This game really did have a bowl game feel to it.
  • The 3 turnovers by Arizona State were hard to overcome.
  • I loved those Arizona State helmets
  • Up next?  @ home against Colorado

Minnesota 13, MIchigan 42

The Gophers drop their second straight, losing 42-13 to Michigan today in Ann Arbor.  The Gophers fall to 4-2 on the season.  No Jerry Kill on the sidelines once again for the Gophers today as his seizure problems continue.  This is honestly getting a bit troubling, that's twice now in their last four games.  As much as I like Jerry Kill, it may be time that he step aside and focus on his health.  It's really not going to help the program moving forward to have this hanging over their head.  The play of the team on the field isn't helping Kill's case either.  Craig Bohl anyone?

Observations:
  • The Gophers offense does seem to run smoother with Mitch Leidner as QB.
  • Drew Wolitarsky is a pretty big target.  Get him the ball!
  • The Gophers play calling is just way too conservative.  No killer instinct at all.
  • Cameron Botticelli is probably the most underrated player on the Gophers squad.
  • Once again, the Gophers pass rush was very quiet. Way too much time for Gardner.
  • Time of Possession:   Minnesota 33:48, Michigan 26:12
  • Maxx Williams has the makings of a pretty good TE.
  • Michigan looked bigger, stronger and faster than Minnesota.  Hit the weight room guys!
  • Chris Hawthorne did a nice job kicking the ball.
  • Why does Michigan QB Devin Gardner wear number 98?
  • The Little Brown Jug stays in Michigan, for the 23rd time in 24 years/39th time in 42 years.
  • Up next?  @ Northwestern in 2 weeks.

Hungrier Than Ever!

The Phoenix Coyotes open their season today, the first with no relocation threats hanging over their heads in quite some time.  It'll be interesting to see how they perform with stable ownership for a change.

Twins Extend Ron Gardenhire

Did you catch the news?  The Twins have signed manager Ron Gardenhire to a 2 year contract extension.  That's quite a feat considering that he's led the Twins to 3 straight 96+ loss seasons.  That's quite a high standard the Twins are setting isn't it?   I've lost all faith in this current Minnesota Twins organization, it seems like they aren't even trying anymore, they got their new stadium then decided to just tank it.  How can an organization lose 96+ games for 3 years in a row and there not be consequences?   I'm not suggesting that Ron Gardenhire is not a good manager, I'm guessing that he'd get snapped up rather quickly by another team if he was fired, what I'm suggesting is that it's probably time for a fresh approach.  The approach they are using now isn't working, it hasn't worked in the last 3 years, players tend to tune people out after awhile, why keep doing the same thing over and over again if it's not working?   Isn't that the definition of insanity?  Try something new already!
