Vikings pick Christian Ponder

IMO, the Vikings reached a bit in their selection of Florida St QB Christian Ponder.  It's also my opinion that they really didn't have much choice either though, they had to do something if they didn't want to bring in another retread veteran to play QB.   There is a lot to like about Ponder, he's very intelligent, he completed a high percentage of passes, his team did well with him at the helm, he did well on 3rd down, it's a pretty solid pick.  Time will tell I guess, hopefully it works out for them.

Cards pick Patrick Peterson

I love it, great pick by the Cardinals in the selection of CB Patrick Peterson from LSU.  Now they can team him with DRC to give them one of the best set of corners in the NFL.  It also allows them to move Greg Toler to the nickel spot and Michael Adams to the dime spot where they both probably belong anyways.

TPSG NFL Mock Draft 4.0

Here it is, the final TPSG 2011 NFL Mock Draft, I'm guessing I may get 1 or 2 correct.  Let's be honest, it's so unpredictable, one reach by one team can throw everything off, 1 trade (or multiple trades) can also change the whole complexion of the draft, I'm giving it my best shot though based upon the knowledge I have.  At this point I think a lot hinges on the QB's, there could be 2 going in round 1, there could be 6, it's hard to tell, the key will probably be the 3rd QB, once that pick is on the books it could set off a run on QB's (personally I think Newton and Gabbert are the only ones who are first round talents, the rest would be reaches).  If the Cardinals stick with the BPA (best player available) philosophy they will end up selecting between Patrick Peterson, Von Miller, AJ Green or Robert Quinn), that could be thrown out the window though if Blaine Gabbert is available and they feel he can be a franchise QB.  As for the Vikings, I now just can't see them taking a QB at 12, that is too much of a reach for any QB (unless Gabbert or Newton inexplicably fall to them), some may feel Ryan Kerrigan would be a reach at number 12 but I like him a lot, I think he'll have a nice long career, they will also be in position to pounce on any of my top 11 that fall (which is entirely possible).  I also wouldn't be surprised to see the Vikings trade down.

  1. Carolina Panthers - Cam Newton - QB - Auburn
  2. Denver Broncos - Von Miller - LB - Texas A& M
  3. Buffalo Bills - Marcell Dareus - DT - Alabama
  4. Cincinnati Bengals - A.J. Green - WR - Georgia
  5. Arizona Cardinals - Patrick Peterson - CB - LSU
  6. Cleveland Browns - Julio Jones - WR - Alabama
  7. San Fransisco 49ers - Blaine Gabbert - QB - Missouri
  8. Tennessee Titans - Nick Fairley - DT - Auburn
  9. Dallas Cowboys - Tyron Smith - OT - USC
  10. Washington Redskins - Robert Quinn - OLB - North Carolina
  11. Houston Texans - Prince Amukamara - CB - Nebraska
  12. Minnesota Vikings - Ryan Kerrigan - DE - Purdue
  13. Detroit Lions - Anthony Castonzo - OT - Boston College
  14. St Louis Rams - Corey Liuget - DT - Illinois
  15. Miami Dolphins - Mark Ingram - RB - Alabama
  16. Jacksonville Jaguars - Aldon Smith - DE/OLB - Missouri
  17. New England Patriots - Cameron Jordan - DE - California
  18. San Diego Chargers - J.J. Watt - DE - Wisconsin
  19. New York Giants - Nate Solder - OT - Colorado
  20. Tampa Bay Buccaners - Da'Quan Bowers - DE - Clemson
  21. Kansas City Chiefs - Muhammed Wilkerson - DT - Temple
  22. Indianapolis Colts - Gabe Carimi - OT - Wisconsin
  23. Philadelphia Eagles - Danny Watkins - OG - Baylor
  24. New Orleans Saints - Marvin Austin - DT - North Carolina
  25. Seattle Seahawks - Jake Locker - CB - Miami
  26. Baltimore Ravens - Torrey Smith - WR - Maryland
  27. Atlanta Falcons - Adrian Clayborn - DE - Iowa
  28. New England Patriots - Mike Pouncey - OG/C - Florida
  29. Chicago Bears - Derek Sherrod - OT - Mississippi St
  30. New York Jets - Akeem Ayers - DE - UCLA
  31. Pittsburgh Steelers - Aaron Williams - CB - Texas
  32. Green Bay Packers - Cameron Heyward - DE - Ohio St
*****Final draft results can be found here.   I got 7 picks correct in my mock draft (8 if you count Julio Jones who went #6 overall but to the Falcons via a trade, not the Browns).  I also predicted 27 out of 32 first rounders correct too (Torrey Smith, Akeem Ayers, Aaron Williams & DaQuan Bowers all went in round 2).*****

Governor Brewer gets a grip???

This is hard to believe, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer governing with a semblance of sanity?   She not only vetoed the asinine birther bill but she also vetoed the legislation that would have allowed guns in schools.   Hopefully, she will continue to try to distance herself from Russell Pearce and his gang of wackos on the far right (we'll find out soon when she must decide whether to veto the guns in public buildings legislation).

Boston Marathon

Geoffrey Mutai from Kenya won the 2011 Boston Marathon yesterday in a time of 2 hours, 3 minutes & 2 seconds, that is the fastest marathon ever.  That is just sick.  That's 26.2 straight miles at a pace of about 4:45 a mile. How can the human body do that????   Unfortunately for Mutai he doesn't get the world record though because there was a tail wind of about 21 mph.  Whatever, give him the record.

Kevin Na's 'Tin Cup' Moment

TPSG 2011 Post Season NBA Awards

MVP - Derrick Rose - Chicago
This pick comes down to 3 players in my mind, Derrick Rose, LeBron James & Kevin Durant (sorry Kobe, but your play did drop some this year), with that in mind how can you not go with the best player on the best team?   Derrick Rose really picked up his game this year, especially when down the stretch.  He gets the nod.

Rookie of the Year - Blake Griffin - LA Clippers
This is an easy one, Blake Griffin was easily the best rookie, he's got a great all around game, he's got charisma, he's got super star potential.  John Wall is going to be a good one too but he wasn't in Griffin's class (at least this year), watch for him to make a Derrick Rose like rise though in the years to come.

Most Improved Player - Kevin Love - Minnesota
Love went from 14.0 points to 20.2 points and from 11.0 rebounds to 15.2 rebounds per game, he went from cog player to star player.  Eric Gordon of the Clippers also continued to improve, he's my runner up.  Michael Beasley of the Twolves had a nice turnaround too, he seems to have put his past problems behind him.  Kris Humphries really took off too (oddly enough, it seemed to coincide with his relationship with Kim Kardasian).

Coach of the Year - Tom Thibodeau - Chicago
Thibodeau did an outstanding job in his first year as a head coach.  I don't think anybody expected the Bulls to finish the regular season with the NBA's best record, he really brought the most of his team.  George Karl also did a nice job with the Nuggets, he's my runner up.

All Pro Team - First Team
C - Dwight Howard - Orlando
F - Kevin Durant - Oklahoma City
F - LeBron James - Miami
G - Derrick Rose - Chicago
G - Kobe Bryant - LA Lakers

All Pro Team - Second Team
C - Brook Lopez - New Jersey
F - Carmelo Anthony - New York
F - Kevin Love - Minnesota
G - Dwayne Wade - Miami
G - Russell Westbrook - Oklahoma City

Advice?

Does it bother anybody else when somebody asks you for your opinion/advice on a situation then completely discounts your opinion/advice when it does not agree with their opinion?   Why the fuck are you asking if you don't want an honest/objective opinion?   Fools.

Denzel Washington

TPSG NFL Mock Draft 3.0

It's gettting closer, time for a few updates.  I'm still thinking that the Panthers want a QB first and given that Cam would sell more tickets I think they are leaning in that direction.  Outside of that, the biggest mover is DaQuan Bowers who I have falling all the way down to pick #16, apparently several red flags have been raised over his surgically repaired right knee.  Robert Quinn on the other hand has apparently put to rest some of his off field concerns and his draft status is on the rise.  At #5, some feel that the Cardinals will pounce on QB Blaine Gabbert but I'm not sure that they are that enthralled with him (at least not that early) and I could really see them picking Peterson or Quinn at that spot.  The Vikings at #12 are also hard to read, they've been making lots of noise about wanting a QB but I'm not sure if they feel any of the available QB's are worthy of a #12 pick, it wouldn't shock me to see them trade down and then try to grab a QB a bit later on in round #1 (specifically Mallett, Locker or Ponder), if they don't I wouldn't be surprised to see them pick a DE here (probably Bowers, Jordan or Watt).

TPSG College Basketball POY

....and the 2010-2011 TPSG College Basketball Player of the Year winner is..........

Jimmer Fredette from BYU, congratulations Jimmer, shoot me a message to claim your prize.  Jimmer had a great season, he averaged 28.9 points and 4.3 assists per game, he is now the Mountain West Conference all time leading scorer.  The guy was nearly unstoppable this year, he's got unbelievable range, he could also create his own shot.  I think he'll get drafted somewhere in the middle of round 1 of the upcoming NBA Draft.  I don't see him as a future NBA star but I do see him having a nice long professional career (see Eddie House or JJ Reddick as 2 comparisons).

Runner up:   Kemba Walker from UConn, he had a great season too but I don't think he quite measured up to Jimmer.   I'm guessing he will be quite content with his NCAA Championship ring though.

Woman's winner:   Maya Moore from UConn, no question here, Maya really doesn't have a weakness, she will no doubt be the first pick in tomorrow's WNBA Draft (by the Minnesota Lynx BTW).

Glenn Beck Leaving FOX

I think Jon Stewart is going to miss Glenn Beck.  I know I will certainly miss Jon Stewart's ripping of Glenn Beck.
