Wingmen

One of the problems with remaining single is that your wingmen eventually tend to marry off or move off, meaning you need to find new wingmen (or you need to do a lot of things solo).  That's kind of where I'm at right now.  Most of my wingmen have gotten married, those who haven't have moved.  I don't like doing things alone but how the fuck do I find a new wingman?  It's tough, I have no desire to hang out with the people I work with and I didn't grow up here so I don't know a lot of other people, so what do I do? Yeah, I know, just find a woman, but that's tougher too when you don't have a wingman.  Sometimes it nice to just hang out with the guys too.  It's a vicious cycle man.

Texas School Book Controversy

Have you seen what's going on in Texas?  The right wing lunatics have decided to rewrite school history books with a far right wing slant.  The new version will have a greater focus on the Biblical and Christian traditions of the founding fathers. It also calls for the teaching of free market principals, how government taxation and regulation can serve as restrictions to private enterprise, and emphasizes the achievements of Republican leaders, including former President Ronald Reagan and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.  What it will not do is give a voice to any opposing view points. What happened to teaching both sides of an issue?  This is what happens when only a small percentage of people actually vote (those who are the most active and engaged).  Get out and vote people!

Best of 2009-2010 Television Season

With the 2009-2010 television season coming to a close I thought that it would be a good time to list my favorite television shows of the 2009-2010 season.
  1. 30 Rock - Alec Baldwin, Tina Fey, Tracey Morgan, Jack McBrayer, best show on TV.
  2. The Office - still going strong, they need to resign Steve Carell though.
  3. How I Met Your Mother - the new Friends, very funny.
  4. Modern Family - easily the best new show on TV.
  5. Lost - it was interesting watching them put a wrap on this show.
  6. 24 - it wasn't their strongest season but you can't beat the non-stop action.  Jack Bauer will be missed.
  7. CSI - Laurence Fishburne stepped in quite nicely for William Peterson in my opinion.
  8. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - hilarious, I just wish they had a longer season.
  9. Friday Night Lights - great sports show.
  10. Survivor - this show never get's old.

Massage Parlor Arrests

What is the point of this non-sense?   They spend 18 month to investigate the actions of consenting adults?  How ridiculous is that?  Who was actually getting hurt?  Wasn't there a meth lab somewhere they could have been shutting down?  Weren't there drunk drivers they could have gotten off the road?  Weren't there murders and thefts that could have been investigated?  What a waste of 18 months worth of resources.

Time to Abolish the NBA Draft Lottery

I think it's time to change the NBA Draft Lottery, it's just not right that the 14th worst team in the league has a chance at the number 1 pick in the draft.  The goal should be to give the worse teams a chance to get better yet the worst team in the league has only won the lottery once (the Orlando Magic in 2004). The Nets this past year had a historically bad season and easily were the worst team in the league, there's no way that 2 other teams should be picking ahead of them.  Let's look at the Timberwolves too, they've now been in the lottery 13 times, they have never moved up to a higher position than they've been slotted for, they've never picked higher than 3rd overall, they've fallen from their slot 7 times (including this year where they were slotted at number 2 and fell to number 4).  Not a recipe to jump into the elite level of teams.  No other league that I know of use a lottery to determine the order of their draft.  How about going back to the team that has the worst record getting the first pick, second worst getting the second pick and so on?  Or how about just allowing the bottom 3-4 teams a chance at the number 1 pick?  Or how about having the lottery only determining the number 1 pick?  That way no team would fall 2 slots.  The Timberwolves fans has suffered enough, it's time to end this nonsense!

Top 10 Reality Shows

I'm a big reality television show fan.  With last night's season finale of  "Survivor: Heros vs Villians" it got me to thinking about the best reality shows.  So without further adieu, here's my list of the top 10 television reality shows ever.

1.  Survivor

Easy number 1 pick, going all the way back to Richard Hatch all the way to Russell Hantz, the best reality show ever.

2.  The Amazing Race - I love seeing all the different cultures.
3.  The Real World - The grandaddy of all reality shows, its still going strong. Who could ever forget Puck?
4.  The Osbournes - You just couldn't turn away from the train wreck that is Ozzy.
5.  Fear Factor - Snakes, spiders, bugs, crazy stunts, good TV.
6.  American Idol - Rip it all you want but it gave us the likes of Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson, Chris Daughtry & Cari Underwood.
7.  Jackass - How could you not laugh at these idiots abusing themselves?
8.  The Apprentice - "You're Fired!"  Classic.
9.  Deadliest Catch - You'd never think they could make deep sea crab fishing so interesting.
10.Big Brother - Stupid mindless summer fun.

Tax Burden

The USA Today is reporting that the tax burden of Americans is at it's lowest rate since 1950.  I wonder how the right wing demagogues and the tea bag advocates reconcile this with their "we are overtaxed" rhetoric?  I really don't think these idiots care, they realize that if they repeat this lie often enough, enough lemmings will believe it and vote their way and that is their ultimate goal.  It would be really nice if people would open their eyes every once in awhile and see how they are being manipulated.  MediaMatters is an excellent resource to ferret out the truth, check it out sometime, try starting with this page.

Prostitution

Isn't it about time that prostitution was legalized?  Shouldn't activities between consenting adults be between consenting adults?  The key of course being consenting adults.  It just seems to me that we are spending way too much time enforcing morality when there are better places that those resources could be spent, wouldn't it be better to just regulate it, tax it and let it be?

Vegas Baby!

I just got back from Las Vegas, it was my first trip there in about 2 years.  It was long overdue, I really missed it.  I used to go more often but being in a recession and all I felt the need to be more responsible and had to cut back some.  I'm guessing it won't be another 2 years before I return.  Gambling, booze, hot women, strip clubs, night clubs, people watching, general debauchery, you name it, it's all there.  It's paradise for a single guy!

See the next page for further details of my trip.

Asian Fetish

I must admit, I have a bit of an Asian Fetish, I just love Asian women.  There is just something about their exotic looks, their dark hair, their tanned complexion and their smooth skin that drives me nuts.

Los Suns

I'm not a big fan of mixing sport and politics (or religion and politics for that matter) but I do support the Phoenix Suns decision to wear their Los Suns uniforms tonight as a statement against Arizona's recently passed illegal immigration law.  It's just a bad law, it needs to be re-thought, people around the country should understand that not everybody in Arizona supports it.  Go Suns!

Top 10 Players in the NBA

LeBron James' 2nd straight MVP award got me wondering who the best player in the NBA really is.

Tough call for number 1.  LeBron or Kobe?   Kobe or LeBron?  I think there's a bit of a drop off after those 2.  Both can be unstoppable offensively, both play very good defense.  I think what it comes down to for me is rings, Kobe has 4, LeBron has 0.  I know Kobe has had a better supporting cast but still I don't feel that LeBron has elevated his game enough either when it really matters.   So, my call is:

1-Kobe Bryant - Lakers

2. LeBron James - Cavs
3. Dwayne Wade - Heat
4. Dwight Howard - Magic
5. Kevin Durant - Thunder
6. Deron Williams - Jazz
7. Carmelo Anthony - Nuggets
8. Dirk Nowitzki - Mavs
9. Tim Duncan - Spurs
10.Steve Nash - Suns

Chris Paul would have made the list but who knows how he'll come back from his knee surgery.

AZ Senate Bill 1070

Being that I am a resident of the state of Arizona I think that it's only fitting that I chime in on the recently passed AZ Senate Bill 1070.  Let me start out by saying that I'm not a fan, it's overreaching and gestapoesque.  The idea of somebody needing to have "documents/papers" on themselves to prove their citizenship is asinine. That having been said, the national outcry and rhetoric about the law is getting a bit out of hand.  First of all, it never should have gotten to this point.  Immigration is a federal issue, not a state issue, had the federal government taken action on this we wouldn't be where we are right now.  How long should the state of Arizona have to wait for the federal government to take action?  Secondly, why should we care what somebody in the mid-west thinks of the law?  We here in Arizona are on the front lines of this issue, we see the negative impact of illegal immigration on a first hand basis everyday.  Let people across the country experience the same negative effects and then maybe I'll care what they think.  Next, I highly doubt that this bill will ever be enforced anyways, various lawsuits will be submitted, I assume a court someplace will issue an injunction and will eventually rule that it is not enforceable.  Lastly, I find it very unlikely that a Latino walking down the street is going to be picked up for "looking like an illegal immigrant" as has been depicted by much of the media, there does also need to be some "reasonable cause" and looking Latino is not "reasonable cause".   To sum up, I don't like the law as written but I do see the need for action to be taken, hopefully this law will serve as an impetus for a more reasoned well thought out law at the federal level.

Nice April for Twins

Nice start to the season for the Twins, they finished April with a 15-8 record.  That equates out to 105 wins.  They outscored their opponents 118-87.  Obviously, they will cool down a bit from that start, still it's nice to see.

Some nice starts individually too.  Justin Moreau finished April hitting .347 with 5 HR's and 17 RBI.  Joe Mauer finished at .345, with 13 RBI.  Michael Cuddyer sits at .309/3/18 and Orlando Hudson at .301/1/8.  Francisco Liriano was dominant on the mound with a 3-0 record, 0.90 ERA and 27 K's in 29 innings.  Carl Pavano (3-2/3.73ERA) and Kevin Slowey (3-2/3.77ERA) had nice starts too. Jon Rauch also had 7 saves and a 1.80ERA out of the bullpen.

Red flags?  Dennard Span finished April batting .211 with a .339 OBP, they need better than that from their leadoff hitter.  Joe Mauer had just 1 HR, what happened to the power?  JJ Hardy is batting just .220 with a .281 OBP, he was also limping around quite a bit, they need him to get on track.  They also need better production out of Jason Kubel (.219/2/10) and Delmon Young (.222/2/9).  Starting pitchers Scott Baker (2-2/5.72ERA) and Nick Blackburn (1-1/6.85ERA) must pitch better.  Jose Mijares was also miserable in the bullpen (6.00ERA) before winding up on the DL.

All in all though a very good start.  Keep it up Twinkies.

A look at the Diamondbacks April on the next page.
